TIP: Useless Moisturizer

October 25, 2012

Have you ever bought a facial cream or a moisturizer that is pretty much useless? Well I did. I bought this anti -aging Celeteque moisturizer. It claims to diminish crow's feet and stuff but I didn't see any changes on my 2- week usage. And since it cost me Php 600, I don't want to just throw it away. Here's a quick tip on what to do with your useless moisturizer. Use it as a MAKE UP REMOVER!

I put on a strong blue eye shadow on one of my lids.

A few pumps will do. Spread the cream on your cotton pads. Let it sit on your lids for a few seconds then wipe everything off.

Recipe: Guiltless Fruit Cocktail

This morning I decided to skip my usual Filipino breakfast ( Rice + Left over dinner ) and mixed up this really tasty treat! The typical Filipino Fruit cocktail has heavy cream and  sweet condensed milk in it.

Here's a quick trick to make it guilt free! Instead of using heavy sweet cream, use flavored yogurt. For a bowl of mixed fruit, you can just use half  of this small cup. Just glazed those bite sized fruities  and enjoy!

-Handful of seedless grapes
-Diced Fuji apple
-Sliced Kiwi

Haul: Drug Store MAke Up

Care Line Oil Control Blush

1. Rosy Cheek       2. Starlight Shine      3. Fresh Tomato

Each costs Php 80.00. This is my most recommended Cheek product. It's not only  affordable, but it also delivers great results. This doesn't give me any breakouts. It looks flattering on the skin because it gives you that natural flush.

Elf Bronzer

Warm Tan

It's cheap and very pigmented. It gives off a subtle glimmer on your skin when applied. It costs only Php 129.00. Great for fair skin who wants to achieve a bombshell glow.

Maybeline's Powder Foundation

PINK. I got this one on sale for only Php129. This gives almost a  full coverage and registers well on film. The only thing I hate about it is the fact that it shatters after long use.

BLUE. Kuya bought this for me so I am not really sure on the price. This can be worn for daily use. This one is tighly packed compared to the pink one. I once dropped mine off of my office table and it didn't break, but it's the mirror that broke. hihi

Dr. Oil Solutions Face Primer

Ugh.. This one is a bit pricey but hey! I believe it is somewhere around Php 549.00. Sorry I can't remember.Anyway, back to the review. It delivers what it promises to do. It keeps my face looking matte to dewy for up to 5-6 hours. Believe me. I am 50% human and 50% OIL..haha..It feels second to your skin. I feel as if it penetrates to block all the excess sebum on my T zone. It has a clean smell which is very rampant to almost all Korean products. The only thing I don’t like about it though is that cream primer at the base of the tube is not that much.

Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer

Yep! This one is pricey too. It’s probably around Php 300 or something.  It's creamy and velvety when applied. Here's a picture. The difference can clearly be seen. It amplifies the color of your eye shadow. I once wore this to a party. After 3-4 hours of dance floor sweat, I noticed that some of my eye shadow started to crease. As for normal use, which involves less sweat like weddings or debuts, etc., it holds your eye make up for 5-6 hours

Ever Bilena and Careline Glitter Liners

I got them on sale 50% off for everything which will make them Php 60 each. It stays on well on your make up. Here's the problem. Since I have super sensitive skin, I can't put it directly on my lids. It burns. I have to put powder eye shadow first and then the glitter liner. This is such a bummer. Will I buy these again? No. I will just be using them up until I can try another product.

Careline Lip Gloss

Once again! They are the best steals in town.  Careline lip glosses are highly recommended. They are much pigmented and stay on the lips for up to 2-3 hours with no retouch. That is given the fact that you won’t be eating or drinking in between. The glosses have a very thick formula which gives me the impression that they are part gloss and part lipstick. Php 60.00 each.

Review: IPrime IPL Session

2/F The Courtyard Building 26 Sgt. Esguerra Ave., South Triangle Quezon City

Today, I went out with my mom, brother and his girlfriend Jen. Jen asked us if we can join her with her IPL session. And of course that will be a screaming "yes!" from me. haha.

But what the heck is IPL? What's it for? Let me tell you...:)

For most women, unwanted hair is such a bummer. Shaving, waxing and epilating everyday is such a pain. Good thing we live in a continuous modernity. In recent years, researchers have been studying how unwanted hair can be permanently removed. As a result, IPL is invented.

Intense Pulsed Laser (IPL) is a safe and permanent method to achieve a smooth and hair-free look on body areas such as the underarms, the legs and the face.  While IPL does not really require any significant downtime, there are a few guidelines to follow before, after and in between treatments.

Before IPL treatments, be sure to refrain from any hair removal methods for at least two weeks before your appointment.  A certain amount of hair growth is necessary for the IPL technician to easily target the area to be treated.  Generally, the more visible the hair, the more successful the session is.  In addition, the use of waxing, depilatory creams, etc. tend to leave the skin weakened and prone to breaking.  You will need to ensure that the skin on the area to be treated is in optimal condition.  It will be a good idea to keep it moisturized daily.

After IPL treatments, your skin will feel as if it got sunburned.  For most patients, this discomfort only lasts a few hours.  You can ease the sensation by using cold compresses on the area and applying aloe vera gel or sunburn creams.  While you can shower and wash normally, avoid using harsh soaps that can cause dryness, because skin needs adequate moisture to heal.  Use lotion after bathing, but avoid those with very strong fragrances or other added potential irritants. Do not use any product with alpha-hydroxyl acids (AHA) in it. Be sure to avoid rubbing the area; simply pat dry with a soft towel.  For underarm treatments, it is recommended that you gently wipe the area with alcohol and avoid the use of any deodorants for the first 24 hours.  Some redness and swelling is normal, but any crusting will require the use of an antibiotic cream.  For at least three weeks after treatment, no new hair growth will occur, although some stubble may appear.  This is simply dead hair being pushed out of dead follicles and should be shed soon. If not, you can try some gentle exfoliation with a loofah to hasten the process.

In between IPL treatments, avoid exposure to sunlight for about 60 days after each treatment to avoid the development of pigmentation in the area.  Use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.  While shaving is allowed, you will need to wait for about four to five days.  Other hair removal methods such as waxing, tweezing and even bleaching are to be avoided at all costs.  Because hair undergoes four different stages of growth, it is highly unlikely that an area can be completely treated in one or two sessions.  Usually, one session will result in a 30% reduction of total hair growth in a certain area.  After the initial session, it is a good idea to go back for a check-up with your IPL consultant in about one week.  This will give you both a chance to assess your reaction to the treatment, discuss any pertinent concerns on your part, and set the intervals for the succeeding sessions thereafter. The ever so polite receptionist checking our voucher codes

What to expect?
I was asked to remove my top and to cover myself with a towel. They then gave me eye shield to wear for protection from the blasting light coming from the machine.

To prepare my skin for the laser treatment, they used cleaning pads and gently swiped them on the area. Since I don’t pluck nor shave my armpits before treatments, they had to use scissors to shorten the length of the existing hair. It would be best to have at least 2-3 cm hair length so that laser light can penetrate. It then took us only 3-5 minutes to blast Intensed Pulse Laser IPL on my skin.

Every shot felt like a rubber band snapping on my skin. It’s tolerable. The smell of burnt hair was also eminent during the entire procedure. After the treatment, they applied anti-inflammatory cream on my armpits. The dermatologist also reminded me that I shouldn’t wet the area for at least 24 hours.

Since I have been in this place for more than twice, they already have a record of me. My mom and Jen need to sign the patients' form.

Customer Service:
I give it an outstanding 5 for their courtesy. Everybody smiles at anybody. The receptionist is very warm and friendly. The dermatologist and the attendants are also very accommodating.

Facilities:
The clinic is surrounded by a grill restaurant, so parking is a bit difficult. If you are new to the place, you really have to ask the guard where their clinic is. It is somehow located at the back of the building.
Although the clinic is smaller than expected, the interior design creates an illusion of whole floor. They have an amazing restroom. The potpourri pot and scented candles add to the soothing ambiance of the place.

Travel Convenience:
Since I will be coming from Malabon, I had to take the bus going to Cubao. My stop would be the GMA Kamuning MRT Station. Across from the street were several pedicab drivers. You just have to tell them “Courtyard Building” This ride would cost Php20.
·         We had kuya to join us on our trip that day so we get to have a free ride on his car. Amazing!

Tip: MetroDeal.com Review

Yes! I am a self-confessed cheapskate. I am in an eternal quest for affordable ways to look glamorous.  So for today’s entry, I have to give thanks to my brother’s girlfriend for introducing me to metrodeal.com. (It’s really cool to know that your brother’s girl is as vain as you…giggles)

Among all the "discount websites" I know, MetroDeal  is my highly recommended of all. The site is really user -friendly and shopping steps are way too easy. You get to avail of 75-almost 98% discount on spa products, treatments and more. The only down side to this is that they only cater to mostly manila clients. The spas, salons, restaurants are almost always in manila.

Review: Aido Lipsticks

Some of you might get scared of buying Aido lipsticks. Why? It's insanely CHEAP! Each only cost Php50.00. But hold up! Give it a second thought. These lippies turn out to be more than what meets the eye or your wallet. They are highly pigmented. They glide on smoothly and stays on for awhile. So the next time you happen to walk down that make up isle, try them on. Who knows? Maybe that bright pink is your perfect shade.
